Gartshore, New Zealand’s leading joinery, commercial and retail fitout company, began with a single bicycle, a handful of tools and a work ethic forged in grit and determination. Today, more than 70 years on, that legacy has grown into a nationwide presence, with clients across New Zealand relying on our craftsmanship, precision, and ability to deliver standout spaces at scale.
Bill Gartshore arrived from Glasgow in 1955 with nothing more than a dream and a pair of skilled hands. With a labour shortage and his joinery skills in high demand, Bill decided to start his own business a year later.
Seventy years on, that humble basement workshop has grown into a 30,000‑square‑foot, state‑of‑the‑art facility supported by a talented team delivering everything from modest, single‑site fitouts to large‑scale commercial and retail projects right across New Zealand’s regions and major centres.
Bill Gartshore’s attention to detail and work ethic remain the foundation of the business generations later. His son Bill and grandson Rob have continued to expand the family’s expertise, completing projects from the top of the North Island to the deep South and Australasia.
What began as one man’s vision has grown into a 70‑year legacy recognised across the country. As we look ahead, our nationwide presence and enduring commitment to quality ensure the Gartshore name continues to set the benchmark.

Giving back
We take pride in supporting the groups that do good in our community. We champion groups that use sport, education and self-improvement to foster the development of young New Zealanders into better New Zealanders. So, when one of these organisations needs a hand up, we’re there to provide significant financial contributions. In short, we give back to help grow healthier, happier communities.
